Born in Poland, Helena trained at the Polish Academy of Theatre (PWST) in Warsaw and later at RADA in London. She gained a Director's Diploma from both and M. Phil from the University of Warsaw.

From 1991 to 1995, Helena was the Artistic Director of Theatr Clwyd, Wales. Her vision and adventurous policy raised the profile of the theatre to an international league and attracted many major artists including Sir Anthony Hopkins, Julie Christie, Kathryn Hunter, Timothy West, Janet Suzman, Maria Aitken and others.

She won acclaim and awards for her productions of THE DEVILS (Liverpool Daily Post and Echo Arts Award for Best Production); ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL, JANE EYRE (which subsequently transferred to the the Playhouse Theatre, London); FULL MOON (adapted and directed by Helena, which toured internationally and transferred to the Young Vic, London); A DOLL'S HOUSE, MACBETH and THE ROSE TATTOO (Best Director 1995 TMA Regional Theatre Awards).

In 1994, Helena received the Peter Brook Open Space Award for an Outstanding Body of Work at Theatr Clwyd. Her work was featured in a BBC radio programme, HELENA OF CLYWD and in a BBC television documentary, BREAKING THE MOLD.

The Polish premiere of Howard Barker’s VICTORY - translated in to Polish and directed by Helena at the Wroclaw Wspolczesny Theatre in Poland, has gained her the Grand Prix for the Best Director at the 2004 Festival of Premieres, Bydgoszcz, Poland

Parallel with her professional career, Helena pursues her commitment to the training of actors by regularly directing and teaching at LAMDA, National Theatre School of Canada, UCLA and RADA.

Helena works also as Artistic Director of Polish Stage Company UK which she founded in 2004 and Associate Director of KP Productions established in 1995.
