Charles Garland


Charles Garland has written for the stage and television. Work includes:

Libretti for five full-length stage musicals, lyrics for four of these, plus libretto and lyrics for several one act schools musicals, including Another Way, which toured successfully in Norfolk as part of an anti-bullying campaign. (See composers section)

Situation comedy pilots for the BBC, occasional contributions to variety programmes, and many contributions to broadcast comedies.

Many comedy sketches for The Actor’s Centre in London and Newcastle as part of a six day course devised and led by Charles twice a year for five years.

Two act play On The Same Side performed at the Tristan Bates Theatre London, now adapted as a screenplay and also two part television drama (now entitled Death Duty)

Projects in development include Any Painted Angel, a novel, and Five By Five, a play comprising five ‘theatre shorts’ for five actors, My Labrador Eats Poo, a book of ‘whimsical verse’ and Jimmy The Puffin, a book of stories for young people of 8 to 10, both due to be published in Spring 2017.

Charles has an MA in creative writing from the University of East Anglia.
