Kyle Lima is a Writer, Actor and Performer, and in his own words “a frustrated yet proud dyslexic” born and raised in Cardiff, South Wales. Kyle trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama graduating in 2009 with a BA Honours in Acting.

In late 2017, Kyle wrote and performed a One Man Show called Heart And Soul, at the Wales Millennium Centre, which celebrating the multicultural history of Cardiff, based on the true events of the different generations of Kyle’s family. It spoke about the integration between Black and Welsh culture through Cardiff’s Tiger Bay, fused with character based comedic storytelling, interwoven with Classic and Contemporary Soul music, R’n’B and Vocal Jazz.

Current writing work

Kyle is a member of the BBC Writersroom Welsh Voices collective 2018-19 and is collaborating with the BBC on some upcoming projects for both screen and radio.

Kyle is also a writer in residence with the Omidaz Theatre Company, for their Talking shop project, in association with The Nation Theatre of Wales and Dirty Protest theatre company. The Talking Shop is head up by the Artistic Director of Omidaz, Yvonne Murphy, and is a project centred around writers creating scripts to be performed, based on open and sometimes difficult conversations through social engagement, in a “Cultural & Political Information & Creation Centre” pop up shop, in the heart of Cardiff’s city centre.
Kyle has also recently worked with Sky on their Sky Arts: Art 50 project in collaboration with The Barbican Centre, in which he wrote and performed a monologue for the project. It was broadcast on the SkyArts channel March 29th. It has a comedic tone but very much rooted in the hard topics of the time and pulls no punches in addressing the issues surrounding Brexit, all spoken from a Welsh perspective.

Kyle’s Personal statement

“I love to perform but in doing so a lot of the time you are serving someone else’s vision and as a
personally creative individual, I have found myself wanting to create my own stories and serve my own visions, or collaborate with others in bringing a shared vision to life, and writing has opened the door for me creatively, to explore the full potential of my love for story telling”.

Kyle’s Acting work

As an Actor, Kyle has worked with such practitioners as Tom Morris, the Artistic Director of The Bristol Old Vic and director of the world renowned theatre production of ‘War Horse’. Kyle has also worked with Emma Rice, the Artistic Director of Wise Children Theatre Company and previous Artistic Director of The Shakespeare’s Globe and Kneehigh Theatre, as well as Timothy Sheader, the artistic director of the Open Air Regents Park Theatre.

Kyle can also soon be seen in actor Tom Cullen’s (Knightfall) cinematic directorial debut PINK WALK, staring Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) and Jay Duplass (Transparent).
