Born in London, Sue trained as a dancer at The Royal Ballet School, then at Ballet Rambert. She trained as an actress at the Central School of Speech and Drama and at L'ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Sue Lefton is a theatre director who is also recognised as one of the UK's foremost movement directors, working all over the world in theatre, opera and film. 

Previous engagements include productions at the National Theatre, Royal Court, Glyndebourne, Metropolitan Opera, and 15 years at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Film credits include Elizabeth with Cate Blanchett and The Libertine with Johnny Depp. She was nominated for Best Director in the Time Out Awards for her theatre company's production of A Doll's House. Work as choreographer includes Alcina (Vienna Staatsoper). 

Her many directing credits include The Lady From the Sea (Bridewell Theatre), The Causasian Chalk Circle and The Winter's Tale (Mercury Theatre, Colchester), A Mad World My Masters (Shakespeare's Globe), Welcome to Ramallah (Arcola Theatre), The Hour We Knew Nothing of Each Other (Guildhall School of Music and Drama), and a critically acclaimed, sell-out production of Who Do You Think You Are? at the Southwark Playhouse with her own company, The Visible Theatre Ensemble.

Sue Lefton has collaborated with Adrian Noble over the last twenty years. She worked closely as his movement director and choreographer during his time as Artistic Director of the RSC and has worked with him regularly in Opera, most recently at The MET in New York on his critically acclaimed production of Verdi's Macbeth.
